February 1, 2007, 6:30 p.m.- Spring Meeting
November 2, 2006, 6:30 p.m. - Winter Meeting
Please join us for our winter meeting. During the business part of the meeting we will plan
and discuss upcoming events sponsored by the Friends of the Millbury Public Library, including
the Spring Fundraiser and Library Holiday decorations. Following the business meeting and a short break for refreshments, we will be joined by author
Seth Mnookin, who will be reading from his book "Feeding the Monster: How Money Smarts and Nerve Took a Team to the Top."
Seth Mnookin will share with us the inside story of how savvy management turned baseball's "cursed" team into world champions and how this success
presented the biggest challenges of all. Seth Mnookin lived with the Red Sox in 2005, spending mornings with the front office,
afternoons with the players, and evenings with the owners. Feeding the Monster offers startling new details on
everything from the 2001 sale of the team, in which the winning bidders were rumored to be hand-selected by baseball commissioner Bud Selig,
to Theo Epstein's stunning decision to quit, and then return to, the team that had made him famous.
September 28, 2006, 7:00 p.m. - Annual Kick-Off Meeting
We will have a short business meeting, followed by refreshments and a special guest speaker appearance by Massachusetts Author Adam Pachter, who will be reading from his all-fiction anthology of short stories "Fenway Fiction: Short Stories from the Red Sox Nation." Stories include: a Shakespearean salute to Game Seven of the 2004 American League Championship Series; what happens when an academic suddenly gets the call to pitch for the Sox; a fan stumbles upon a ticket that grants access to all of Fenway's hidden places; an alternate history of the 2004 World Series. Refreshments will be served, raffles, membership sign-ups.
